Frankly My Year

June 6 2007

Morning all,

So I’ve been here a year now. A year ago these reprobates that surround me were new, we were thrown together to learn about a secret project for this company and we did, went out, got drunk and some over the course of the year left. Some didn’t and some only wish they did, I’m unsure about the whole thing because I like the job and the people (most of ‘em) so I don’t see it as a year lost. Anyway, I found this development plan written just over a year ago, on the 2nd of June.

Either I’m really good at sitting on the fence, or I had realistic ambitions for this job, Either way, most of it was pretty spot on as it turned out.

I think I am a good team member and that I radiate enthusiasm to all around me which is particularly usefull when the job becomes monotonous. I try to maintain a high standard and whatever I am asked to do I follow up to the best of my ability.

At this early stage I would think that the main weakness is product familiarity. Instantly knowing what is acceptable practice and what is not, however, working every day on this is helping. The more familiar we become with the processes when the workload gets heavier, the more instant the knowledge will be.

On my last team I really enjoyed being an experienced, somewhat specialised member of a very happy and very close knit team. I would like to achieve that on this new team, so that when new people come on board I am looked at as an experienced member that they can go to for help.

I am a happy member of the team, I do know the job very well and know the ins and outs as well as you can do in a forever changing environment. As a summary of the last year I would say, job done. Not job perfect, but then who can claim that.

All the best
